Our Building Portfolio

We’ve delivered some fantastic projects, from new luxury housing estates to grand renovations

Denton Holme Conservative Club

McKnight & Son was awarded a contract to strip out, refurbish, and completely redesign the interior of the Denton Holme Conservative Club following a flood in the concert room and cocktail lounge.

We fitted a state of the art air conditioning system and ventilation, stripped out the existing bar areas, provided computer images of the full interior design fit out, installed a full new bar and fixed seating, and provided a full colour scheme, loose furniture, and carpets.

Morton School science labs

McKnight & Son were awarded a contract to refurbish and remodel three of the science labs at Richard Rose Morton Academy during the 2022 summer holidays.

They were completely transformed from an outdated design to a more modern look.

Former Prince of Wales pub site

The site in Denton Holme which the former Prince of Wales pub used to stand on had been disused for more than ten years when our team began work on it.

We transformed the site, which was an eyesore, into a car park on behalf of Graves Cumberland Limited which owns Rex Bingo Hall. The works that our team carried out included constructing a brick gable end wall where the existing dwellings had been demolished, excavating the existing basement of fill in, tarmacked the full car park, created an extension to the rear of the bingo for a smoking area, and built a perimeter wall with sandstone copings and raised garden beds.

Farlam Hall

McKnight & Son have been working with the owners of Farlam Hall since they purchased the property in early 2019. Working alongside a local architect, we have completed a significant amount of work at the hotel.

We have refurbished the stable house cottages, renewed the roof, created a new sandstone entrance, installed full external Collingwood lighting design, restored existing windows and shutters throughout the hotel, resurfaced all roads, and installed additional car parks. We have also undertaken internal refurbishment works within the hotel itself.

Despite issues that we encountered such as COVID-19 closures and supply issues, the completed works have led to positive feedback from both hotel guests and the owners of Farlam Hall.

Garth House

McKnight & Son had the opportunity to work on an unusual project on behalf of the owners of Garth House who asked us to build a castle which would be used as holiday accommodation. It’s also believed to be the first castle built during King Charles III’s reign.

The property, set on the outskirts of Brampton, is on the same land as a Grade II listed building. We were contacted by the owners due to our technical skills as well as our trustworthiness. Peel Castle was built completely from scratch and features large rooms that compliment the dramatic structure.

We used local sandstone with traditional lime mortar pointing and natural roof slates to ensure Peel Castle blended in with other properties.

Old School Court

Our luxury development Old School Court gives you the best of both worlds combining the bustling metropolitan city lifestyle with the peace and quiet of the suburbs.

These fabulous homes are set on the site of the historic Caldewgate School and the original features of the school have been incorporated into the development. Each apartment and house is fitted with modern fixtures throughout to create a contemporary living space with a lot of character.

There is a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments as well as three bedroom townhouses. Residents benefit from not only being close to amenities such as schools and supermarkets but also superb transport links to London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.

William's Pasture

William’s Pasture is an exclusive development of new build homes on the outskirts of Carlisle, in the hamlet of Aglionby. This previously unused, badly drained site has been sensitively developed to create a stunning estate of five detached houses. Each home has its own unique character and boasts unparalleled views to the west, north & east.

From the offset, McKnights & Son were able to see the potential of this unused site, despite the elevation, poor drainage, high-water table and constant running water.

Although there were challenges during the building process, the finished homes speak for themselves. Each property is finished to the highest standard and has incredible views of the surrounding countryside, which the new owners are delighted with.

Victory Hall

McKnight & Son undertook a mammoth overhaul of the beloved Victory Hall in Dalston to bring this Victorian village hall into the 21st Century. It was an undertaking that required expert planning and skill in order to comply with conservation restrictions, whilst being mindful of local residents and those still using the building.

We increased the size of the building by 30 per cent, provided new kitchen facilities, updated the toilets, installed a new electric heating system, upgraded the radiators and redecorated the building. The goal was to have the overhaul completed in time for the annual village show – we completed it two weeks early and on budget.

Now, Victory Hall is being used by more community groups than before and it is also a hot-spot for weddings. The accessible toilets also mean it is suitable for all members of the community. Residents are thrilled with the hall’s new lease of life.

Linstock Barn

Our conversion of Linstock Barn blends the old with the new to create a stunning and modern build that is perfect for countryside living.

We designed the contemporary interior to blend with attractive original features, such as exposed beams and feature windows. It is flooded with natural light, thanks to the addition of floor-to-ceiling windows, Velux roof lights and light tubes.

It was built to the highest standards and as a result, our meticulous work on this stunning barn conversion helped McKnight & Son to secure a Building Excellence Award.
