A landmark building on one of Carlisle’s busy thoroughfares has been brought back to life thanks to a new deal between McKnight and a young entrepreneur.
Kayleigh Seggie has taken on the former Globe Inn premises on the city’s Bridge Street, that prominent junction between historic Carlisle Castle and the McVitie’s factory, and opened up Laser & Co. She’s taken on the lease from the developer and construction firm McKnight and created a luxury spa-like environment.

The building has a long history. It was once a pub under the city’s State Management Scheme, the strict regulation of drinking establishments by the Government from 1916 to 1973. In more recent years it’s been a regular pub, a hairdressing salon and a Fair Trade décor and interiors shop.
Now Kayleigh has transformed the interior into an oasis of quiet and calm. She latterly owned the successful Boujee barber shop on Castle Street, where she diversified into laser hair removal. In her new Bridge Street premises she is also leasing rooms to The Spa Room, which specialises in massage, brow and lash treatments, and Derma HQ, a beauty and aesthetics clinic.
“I focus on hair removal for men and women, including helping those who have conditions like polycystic ovaries and hormonal issues which cause excess hair growth,” says Kayleigh. “I started when I had Boujee and the pandemic gave me a chance to reset and realise I wanted to specialise on the laser treatments full time.
“I knew I would need bigger premises and when McKnight said this building was available I knew it would be snapped up quickly so I signed up for the lease as quickly as I could. It’s an iconic building in Carlisle and has everything I needed – a prominent location, parking and lots of passing trade.
“The team at McKnight were great. I told them what I planned and they loved the ideas. I’ve created a big reception room and separate consulting room with a real spa vibe – it’s all about the lighting, the smells and the welcome. There are beautiful lights and big cacti, it’s like being abroad. One client said it’s heavenly.
“There’s a massive cellar I haven’t even touched yet so that’s going to be the second phase!”
Wayne McKnight, managing director of McKnight, has welcomed Kayleigh and her colleagues to the property. He said: “Everyone who travels through Carlisle knows this building and we are so pleased to see it get such a beautiful revamp.
“One of McKnight’s specialities is commercial lettings, alongside luxury construction and development projects, and we want to see the buildings we own looking amazing and, ultimately, providing the best business premises for our tenants.”
